A SOUND-insulated room in this Cremorne home was once the work studio of former INXS frontman Jon Stevens, according to the current owners, Beryl and Melvin Truong. “My neighbour says they used to hear great singing coming from this house, and they found out it was Jon Stevens,’’ Beryl said. Not long after Beryl and Melvin Truong bought the place, their grand plans to renovate went by the wayside as Beryl was transferred overseas with her job at Reuters. Since returning, the Truongs have had their first child, and Beryl now works from home as a natural therapist. She needs room to hold workshops, and Melvin, who works from home as an environmental consultant, needs an office. They are swapping their lovely three-bedroom semi with north-facing views over Willoughby Bay for a large house backing on to a national park. View with Gayle Walker before the August 7 auction. Details: 0402294040. Richard and Joanne Kenderes were very surprised when they discovered they were having twins. The complete refurbishment of their beloved three bedroom apartment was over, but they were thinking they might have to move in five years or so. Sixteen months later and the Kenderes’ are expecting another child an even bigger surprise and realise it’s time to move. “We’re really reluctant to… [...]
THEY may have been there only four years but in that short amount of time the Kim family has transformed the home at 7 Alinta Cl, Thornleigh. They have put in new carpet, painted the walls, replaced the door frames, bought new light fittings, new wardrobes, more storage in the laundry and generally given the house a fresh feel. But after finishing this project, Christian Kim is ready for a new challenge. “I need a change, I enjoy doing work on the house on the weekends but there’s nothing left to do here,” he said. The home has two bathrooms and four bedrooms, the master with its own ensuite, walk-in wardrobe and balcony. The living areas include a combined lounge and family room with a gas fireplace and a balcony. There is a modern kitchen with dishwasher, pantry and adjoining dining room. Downstairs you will find a large space which could be used as a bedroom, study or media room. The highlight of the home for Mr Kim has been his wine cellar. “I’ll miss the wine storage room and I’m a wine lover,” he said… [...]
IT only takes one step into this house, and the kind of feeling you get to returning to a warm, cosy place after a long day at work seems to take over. Home owner Steven Nelson says creating that and maintaining it throughout the house, which was built in 1929, is his proudest feature. “We love the character of the house,” he said. “It’s got a beautiful, warm feeling to it.” Indeed it does. Mr Nelson said when he first bought the house in 1999, it was in need of refurbishment. Over four years, he went to great lengths to not only fully renovate it, but add an extension to the original 1929 building. “We’ve taken that character of the house and maintained it right through,” Mr Nelson said. In fact it’s hard to tell which part of the three-bedroom brick house is the older or newer side, as the design, colours, and styling features such as the architraves are all consistent. With two fireplaces (one in each of the two living rooms), full wooden jarrah floorboards, an old-style and fully operational stove, plus an open-plan modern kitchen and casual living area, it’s hard to disagree that this would be a great place to call home. Mr Nelson says the house would be ideal for young families, or couples with city jobs, thanks to its low… [...]

NO. 36 Tukara Rd, South Penrith, was exchanged recently through PRDnationwide with the help of sales consultant Kelly Barton. The property sold for $400,000 and was bought by a local couple who were instantly drawn to the home after seeing its “immaculate” interior presentation, a PRDnationwide spokesman said. Features included three bedrooms – all with built-in wardrobes and ceiling fans – an enclosed rumpus room at the rear of the property and a combination of polished floorboards and tiles throughout the main traffic areas. However, the undercover entertaining area in the backyard, which features an in-built barbecue and an inground pool, was easily the home’s best feature, the agent said. Recent renovations to the kitchen and bathroom helped the sale of the home along because it could be moved into without the new owners needing to spend extra on additions or repairs, the agent said. The home was also well located within walking distance of shops, schools and transport, the agent said. [...]
